Having trouble installing the Jam Studio 5" x 7" Graphics Tablet on your Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating system? Guess what? You're not the first! After installing the Driver CD that was included with your device, you may find an error message telling you that the KB Interactive control panel can only be installed on Windows 95, 98, or ME.

This control panel is what you need in order to configure the device. This control panel will allow you to configure what the little button on the stylus pen does, such as double left click, or single right click, or nothing at all. You can also configure the sensitivity of the tip touching the pad to allow for a left click. All these functions are critical and must be configured before you will be able to use this device. If you have properly installed this device, then your Windows Control Panel will have a new icon titled "JAM STUDIO" and you should be able to utilize the device with the included Web Painter 3.0 program, or any other graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, or Macromedia Fireworks. The device works as a system mouse, so any graphics program will be able to utilize the JAM STUDIO GRAPHICS TABLET and vice versa.

Here is what K.I.D., Inc. will suggest the best plan of action for proper installation of this device, assuming you have the installation CD that came with your device:
(NOTE: Every system is different so there is no guarantee the following is the best course of action for your system)

Step 1: Uninstall all the software that came with your device if you have already installed it. If not, skip to Step 2.

Step 2: Download the driver for the Jam Studio Graphic Tablet device for Windows XP from us, by clicking here. It has been confirmed working and is thought to be free of viruses, feel free to scan the file yourself if you have anti-virus software just to be safe. This file is a self extracting .ace file (similar to a zip file) so you will not need any additional software to open it. Once you extract the contents of the file, run the SETUP.EXE file by double clicking on the SETUP.EXE file in the folder that you extracted the contents of the compressed .ace file.

Step 3: If you have any anti-virus software running in the background such as Norton Anti-Virus Auto-Protect, then you will need to disable this function The reason for this is because Norton Anti-Virus and quite possibly other anti-virus auto protection scanners will mistake a file as a virus that is needed for the Web Painter 3.0 to be properly installed. This can be confirmed by re-enabling Norton Anti-Virus and completing a system scan once the software is properly installed. Thanks to the gentleman who posted this article on the linking page of this text, we are able to inform you of this rather rare occurrence. This is another link to an interesting sting of forum posts that may be of interest to those of you who still can't get this device working even though you followed all these steps to the "T". If you would rather not use this program, then assuming all went well with Steps 1 and 2, you should now be able to use the JAM STUDIO graphics tablet as a regular mouse. If you wish to use the included software, then you should now install it as normal. Once installed, be sure to re activate your anti-virus software and run the system scan to find the file thought to be a virus. Norton Anti-Virus should be able to repair this file easily.

Step 4: Reboot your system. Why? We don't know, but for some reason or another this is often what needs to be done for an issue to be resolved. This is a magical "catch-all" fix, only the gods of Micro$oft know the answers.
